a) There is no year constraint for courses to be taken: The University of Vienna requires students to have fulfilled their workload when presenting their MA-thesis.

 

The Curriculum:

Field Data Analysis: Seminar | 5 ECTS

Compulsory for Students starting in Vienna

General Anthropology | 15 ECTS
Some Courses may be taken at partner institutions

CREOLE Thematic Module A | 15 ECTS
To be selected by student at the beginning of the programme
Some courses or the module may be taken at partner institutions

To be selected among:

  • New Identities: e.g. Processes of Globalization, Migration Studies, Legal Pluralism, Intercultural Practices
  • Material Culture and Consumption
  • Visual Culture and Popular Culture: e.g. Anthropology of Art, Visual Culture, The Production of Documentary Videos

CREOLE Thematic Module B | 15 ECTS
To be selected by student at the beginning of the programme
Some courses or the module may be taken at partner institutions
To be selected among, but different to Module A

Erasmus Module | 15 ECTS
Courses:
Teacher Exchange, 2 units | 5 ECTS, May be selected at partner institution | Alternative: A course of a visiting professor (5 ECTS)
Intensive Programme | 10 ECTS, Beginning of Semester 3: Compulsory for International track, and only for students in this track)

If there is no Intensive programme, and only then, two options:

a)      Mediterranean Ethnological Summer School, University of Ljubljana

b)     Specialisation in CREOLE Modules A or B.

Thesis Module 1 | 15 ECTS
Research for Thesis at partner institution

Thesis Module 2 | 30 ECTS
Writing of Thesis | 20 ECTS
Anthro Lab | 5 ECTS
Defence of Thesis | 5 ECTS (all other workload must be documented, i.e. 115 ECTS)
